LHH Recruitment Solutions is seeking an experienced Controller for a Not-For-Profit client in the downtown Chicago area (Hybrid: 3 days in office, 2 days WFH). Salary commensurate with experience will range from $140K-$155K plus health, dental and vision benefits, PTO, 403(b) and 401(a) and more. Why You Should Apply:

Position Overview:

As the Controller, you will lead the monthly close process, financial reporting, and budgeting while conducting in-depth financial analysis. This role supports key decision-makers by providing accurate, timely financial data and ensures compliance with accounting standards. You'll manage a small team (2-3 to start) and contribute to the development and maintenance of robust accounting policies and internal controls.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Manage the month-end closing process, ensuring timely, accurate recording of all financial transactions
  • Oversee the preparation and distribution of monthly and annual financial reports in compliance with GAAP
  • Lead the budgeting process, including periodic forecasting and preparing schedules and reports
  • Ensure strong internal controls are established and adhered to, safeguarding organizational assets
  • Collaborate with external auditors to ensure compliance and manage audits, tax filings, and regulatory reporting
  • Mentor and lead a team of 2-3 staff members, with a focus on professional development and continuous improvement
  • Serve as the primary contact for international accounting operations, ensuring alignment across global offices
Required Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance; CPA required
  • Minimum of 7 years of experience in financial reporting and accounting, with at least 3 years in management
  • Experience in non-profit accounting and public sector environments is a plus
  • Strong understanding of GAAP, financial reporting, and general ledger processes
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Excel and experience with accounting systems
  • Exceptional communication skills, with the ability to present financial data to non-financial stakeholders
  • Proven leadership ability and experience managing teams in a fast-paced environment
