As the Controller, you will lead the monthly close process, financial reporting, and budgeting while conducting in-depth financial analysis. This role supports key decision-makers by providing accurate, timely financial data and ensures compliance with accounting standards. You'll manage a small team (2-3 to start) and contribute to the development and maintenance of robust accounting policies and internal controls.
Key Responsibilities:- Manage the month-end closing process, ensuring timely, accurate recording of all financial transactions
- Oversee the preparation and distribution of monthly and annual financial reports in compliance with GAAP
- Lead the budgeting process, including periodic forecasting and preparing schedules and reports
- Ensure strong internal controls are established and adhered to, safeguarding organizational assets
- Collaborate with external auditors to ensure compliance and manage audits, tax filings, and regulatory reporting
- Mentor and lead a team of 2-3 staff members, with a focus on professional development and continuous improvement
- Serve as the primary contact for international accounting operations, ensuring alignment across global offices
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance; CPA required
- Minimum of 7 years of experience in financial reporting and accounting, with at least 3 years in management
- Experience in non-profit accounting and public sector environments is a plus
- Strong understanding of GAAP, financial reporting, and general ledger processes
- Proficiency with Microsoft Excel and experience with accounting systems
- Exceptional communication skills, with the ability to present financial data to non-financial stakeholders
- Proven leadership ability and experience managing teams in a fast-paced environment
- Location: Prime office location with stunning views in downtown Chicago
- Time Off: Almost 8 weeks off annually (vacation, sick, personal, and holidays)
- Summer Hours: Early Friday finishes between Memorial Day and Labor Day
