IP Patent Paralegal Opportunity - Multiple Michigan & Illinois Locations (Premier Firm)
A highly respected and consistently recognized "Best and Brightest Places to Work" business law firm with an international practice is seeking a skilled Intellectual Property Patent Paralegal/Specialist to join their growing team. Multiple office locations in Michigan (Detroit and Grand Rapids ) and Chicago, IL are available.
In this role, you will provide crucial legal support on a variety of patent-related tasks. This includes gathering preliminary technical information for patent assessment, meticulously monitoring deadlines for domestic and foreign patent activities, and managing routine processes for the maintenance and protection of patents worldwide. You will also be responsible for assisting with the docketing of U.S. and foreign patent matters, including patents, license agreements, and related contested matters.
Responsibilities:
Coordinate domestic and international patent filings with the USPTO and foreign law offices/entities.
Maintain a precise docketing system for critical action deadlines, including responses, renewals, PCT requirements, and foreign patent annuity payments.
Prepare and file various legal documents with the USPTO and foreign counsel.
Prepare and record assignments of intellectual property rights.
Draft professional correspondence to clients.
Generate clear and concise status summary reports for attorneys and clients.
Review and proactively address correspondence received from foreign associates.
Obtain necessary legalizations and certifications for documents.
Conduct thorough research and compile information related to national and international patent rights, including USPTO record searches, industry databases, and general legal research.
Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree and Paralegal certification are preferred.
A minimum of 2+ years of direct patent experience is required.
Strong knowledge of and familiarity with both U.S. and foreign patent procedures (prosecution, maintenance, and renewals).
Excellent computer skills, including proficiency in MS Word, Excel, and the ability to effectively utilize patent docketing software (experience with Innovation or PATTSY is a plus), legal research databases (Lexis/Nexis), and other relevant research tools.
Proven problem-solving abilities with a proactive and independent approach to work.
Ability to handle highly confidential information with utmost discretion and take ownership of producing consistently accurate and complete work.
Exceptional organizational skills, adaptability, and the ability to effectively manage multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment.
Demonstrated ability to manage a high volume of work and progress on projects with minimal supervision.
Strong attention to detail and meticulous follow-up skills.
Excellent interpersonal and teamwork abilities.
A strong work ethic and commitment to professional standards.
A willingness to learn and utilize new research materials and practice tools.
