Job Title: Surgical Coordinator
Location: 100% onsite in Chicago - South Loop
Employment Type: Contract to Hire
About the Role:
We are seeking a highly organized and compassionate Surgical Coordinator to join our healthcare team. This role is essential in ensuring the seamless coordination of surgical procedures, from pre-operative planning to post-operative follow-up. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in patient scheduling, insurance verification, and clinical support, and will work closely with physicians, patients, and administrative staff.
Key Responsibilities:
Schedule surgeries for multiple specialties including orthopedics, gastroenterology, and general surgery.
Coordinate pre-operative requirements such as lab work, imaging, and medical clearances (e.g., PCP, cardiology).
Obtain prior authorizations and verify insurance coverage.
Communicate with patients regarding surgical instructions, confirmations, and any changes.
Maintain accurate and up-to-date patient records in EMR systems (e.g., Cerner, Epic).
Liaise with surgical teams and ensure all necessary equipment and documentation are prepared.
Support front office operations and ensure HIPAA compliance.
Qualifications:
Minimum 2–3 years of experience in surgical scheduling or coordination.
Proficiency in EMR systems and insurance portals (e.g., Navinet, Passport OneSource).
Strong understanding of medical terminology and surgical workflows.
Excellent communication and organizational skills.
High school diploma required; associate degree or certification in medical administration preferred.
Preferred Skills:
Experience working in a hospital or multi-specialty clinic setting.
Familiarity with pre-certification and patient intake processes.
Bilingual abilities are a plus.
