Purchasing Assistant
Location: Cortland, NY 13045
Pay Rate: Up to $33.33/hour
Schedule: Full-time, On-Site
Position Overview:
A dynamic and detail-oriented Purchasing Assistant is needed to support a procurement team by handling materials and service acquisitions. This position requires strong communication, documentation, and multitasking skills, with the ability to work independently using established purchasing procedures. You'll serve as a key point of contact for suppliers and internal teams, ensuring timely and accurate procurement operations.
Key Responsibilities:
Assist in purchasing materials, tools, and services
Confirm purchase orders with vendors and track order status
Maintain records of vendor pricing, terms, and contacts
Research and respond to internal inquiries on product availability and pricing
Review and verify supplier invoices for accuracy
Manage issues related to defective or rejected materials
Follow established policies and procedures for purchasing
Provide updates to supervisors regarding sourcing challenges or unusual issues
Handle "parts not placed" tasks and special procurement projects
Required Skills & Experience:
3+ years of relevant experience in purchasing or procurement
Intermediate proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
Experience with email platforms (e.g., Lotus Notes or similar)
Strong written and verbal communication skills
Able to work independently and collaboratively in cross-functional teams
Strong multitasking skills with attention to detail
Ability to read blueprints and understand basic engineering documents
Knowledge of purchasing commodities, materials, and vendor sourcing
Education Requirements:
High School Diploma or GED required
Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Finance, or related field preferred
Equivalent professional experience will be considered
Pay Details: $30.00 to $33.00 per hour
