LHH Recruitment Solutions is partnering with a client to hire an organized and detail-oriented Certified Payroll Specialist f a contract opportunity n Emeryville, California. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience with payroll processing, a deep understanding of payroll regulations, and a strong background in working with various payroll software systems. As a Certified Payroll Specialist, you will be responsible for ensuring accurate and timely processing of payroll, managing employee records, and ensuring compliance with federal, state, and local payroll laws.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Process payroll for employees, ensuring all wages, deductions, and benefits are accurately calculated.

  • Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local tax regulations and applicable labor laws.

  • Prepare, review, and distribute paychecks, direct deposits, and related documents on time.

  • Maintain and update employee payroll records, including new hires, terminations, and changes in compensation.

  • Manage and resolve payroll-related inquiries from employees.

  • Reconcile payroll discrepancies and take corrective actions as necessary.

  • Process and file payroll tax returns, reports, and other required filings, including W-2s, 1099s, and other year-end documents.

  • Assist in audits, both internal and external, ensuring the integrity of payroll records and processes.

  • Coordinate with HR and finance departments to ensure proper deductions, benefits, and tax withholdings.

  • Stay up-to-date on changes to payroll-related laws, including wage and hour laws, and make adjustments to processes as needed.

Qualifications:

  • Certification as a Certified Payroll Professional (CPP) required.

  • Proven experience in payroll processing, with a minimum of 3-5 years in a payroll specialist role.

  • Strong knowledge of federal, state, and local payroll laws and regulations, including tax withholding, wage garnishments, and benefits administration.

  • Experience with payroll software systems (e.g., ADP, Paychex, QuickBooks) and advanced Microsoft Excel skills.

  • Exceptional attention to detail and strong analytical skills.

  • Ability to handle sensitive and confidential information with discretion.

  • Strong communication and problem-solving skills.

  • Ability to work under tight deadlines and manage multiple tasks simultaneously.

  • Knowledge of union payroll and multi-state payroll processing is a plus.

Pay Details: $34.00 to $38.00 per hour
