LHH has partnered with a nonprofit organization in downtown Grand Rapids, MI. This contract to hire role is fully onsite, Monday – Friday 8:00am-5:00pm.
Responsibilities:
Review and manage contractor and administrative costs to ensure adherence to contractual and grant stipulations, budgetary limits, precise cost categorization, and prompt payment.
Organize accounting documents, ledgers, and journals as directed.
Enter accurate payment codes and accounts payable information to guarantee that vendors, staff, and contractors receive payments correctly and on time. Manage cash deposits, distribute related documentation to the relevant parties, and keep proper records.
Supervise the bi-weekly payroll process by examining employee records and time sheets.
Aggregate data from multiple sources to fulfill the requirements for Federal, State, and other necessary reports.
Handle contract finalizations and preserve the relevant documentation.
Maintain records of paid invoices for reference purposes and respond to accounts payable inquiries from internal and external parties.
Conduct regular subgrantee accounting system validations; offer accounting procedure guidance and support to contractors and others as needed.
Execute internal transaction audits, including a quarterly review of each program’s financials—revenues, expenses, assets, liabilities—and recommend budget adjustments or journal entries when necessary.
Engage with Division Heads as required.
Contribute to ongoing quality enhancement initiatives.
Carry out additional tasks as assigned.
Qualifications:
Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting or a related discipline.
Two to four years of experience in fund accounting within a non-profit or government entity is preferred, or an equivalent mix of education and experience.
Proficiency with word processing, database management, and spreadsheet software.
The ability to perform complex mathematical calculations quickly and accurately.
Skills in analyzing financial records and statistical data are crucial for maintaining intricate financial accounts and generating reports from them.
Strong communication skills for effective oral and written interactions.
Organizational abilities that foster a high-quality work environment and teamwork.
Planning and time management skills are needed to handle shifting priorities effectively.
The capacity to build and sustain productive relationships with supervisors, colleagues, state/local agencies, and the public is important.
Focus on projects that demand attention to detail under pressure to meet deadlines is required.
The physical capacity to sit for long periods is needed.
