The Benefits Specialist is responsible for the administration of employee benefits programs, including health insurance, retirement plans, wellness initiatives, and other offerings. This role requires staying informed on legal regulations, ensuring compliance, and providing employee support through education and problem resolution.
Key Responsibilities
Administer and manage the day-to-day operations of benefits programs such as health insurance, retirement plans, wellness programs, and more.
Conduct benefits orientations for new hires and assist employees with enrolling in benefit programs.
Monitor benefits plans and recommend cost-effective options that meet both employee needs and the company’s objectives.
Stay up-to-date with federal, state, and local benefits regulations (e.g., ACA, FMLA, COBRA) to ensure compliance.
Resolve employee questions and issues related to benefits, including claims and coverage concerns.
Collaborate with vendors and insurance carriers to ensure seamless benefit program administration.
Prepare and distribute communications and materials for open enrollment and other benefit changes.
Assist with the planning and execution of annual open enrollment and other employee benefit events.
Maintain accurate records and ensure that employee benefits data is updated in HRIS systems.
Provide analytical support for various benefit audits and projects.
Required Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or related field, or equivalent experience.
2+ years of experience in employee benefits administration, preferably within an HR environment.
Knowledge of benefits compliance requirements (e.g., ACA, ERISA, COBRA, HIPAA).
Proficiency in HRIS and benefits administration software.
Strong organizational and time management skills with attention to detail.
Excellent communication skills and ability to work well with employees at all levels.
Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to handle sensitive information confidentially.
Preferred Qualifications
Professional certification such as Certified Benefits Professional (CBP) or SHRM-CP/SHRM-SCP is a plus.
Experience with vendor management and negotiation.
