The HR Workers' Compensation Specialist is responsible for overseeing and managing all aspects of workers' compensation claims, from initial filing to case closure. This role ensures compliance with state and federal regulations, manages relationships with insurers, and supports injured employees throughout the process. The ideal candidate will have extensive knowledge of claims management and a proactive approach to minimizing risk while ensuring fair and equitable treatment of employees.
Key Responsibilities
Manage and process workers' compensation claims, ensuring timely and accurate reporting and documentation.
Serve as the main point of contact for injured employees, providing guidance and support throughout the claims process.
Liaise with insurance carriers, medical providers, and third-party administrators (TPAs) to ensure effective claim handling.
Investigate claims by gathering relevant information, including accident reports, medical records, and witness statements.
Monitor and track claim status, ensuring compliance with applicable laws and regulations (e.g., OSHA, state workers' compensation laws).
Coordinate with the safety and HR teams to implement return-to-work programs and light-duty accommodations for injured employees.
Ensure the proper maintenance of workers' compensation records and documentation in accordance with company policies and legal requirements.
Prepare reports and presentations on workers' compensation trends, loss control, and claim outcomes to advise management on risk mitigation strategies.
Provide training and education to supervisors and managers on workers' compensation procedures and best practices.
Conduct audits of workers' compensation programs and recommend improvements to reduce costs and enhance employee safety.
Stay informed on industry trends, regulatory changes, and best practices in workers' compensation.
Required Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, Risk Management, or a related field, or equivalent experience.
3+ years of experience managing workers' compensation claims and compliance.
Strong understanding of workers' compensation laws, OSHA regulations, and claim management processes.
Excellent investigative, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
Ability to communicate effectively with employees, insurance carriers, medical professionals, and legal teams.
High attention to detail and organizational skills, with the ability to manage multiple claims concurrently.
Proficiency in claims management software and HRIS systems.
