Payroll Specialist

1 year contract

Must be local to Houston


Key Responsibilities:

  • Payroll Processing: Process payroll for 5,000+ employees on a bi-weekly/monthly basis using Oracle Payroll systems.

  • Tax Compliance: Ensure accurate tax calculations, deductions, and reporting, including federal, state, and local taxes.

  • Data Entry & Updates: Maintain employee records, including salary adjustments, deductions, benefits, and tax status in the Oracle HRIS system.

  • Reconciliation: Perform regular reconciliations of payroll data, including deductions, taxes, and benefits.

  • Reporting: Generate and review reports for payroll audits, compliance, and internal management review.

  • Benefits Administration: Work closely with the HR team to process benefit deductions and resolve any discrepancies.

  • Employee Queries: Address payroll-related inquiries from employees in a timely and professional manner.

  • Year-End Processing: Assist with year-end processing, including preparing and distributing tax forms (W-2, 1099, etc.) and finalizing payroll data for reporting purposes.

  • Compliance & Regulations: Stay current on federal and state payroll laws and regulations to ensure compliance.

  • Payroll Projects: Assist in payroll-related projects and system improvements as needed.


Qualifications:

  • Experience: Minimum of 3-5 years of experience processing payroll for a large organization (5,000+ employees).

  • Software Proficiency: Extensive experience with Oracle Payroll and HRIS systems is required. Familiarity with other payroll software is a plus.

  • Knowledge: In-depth knowledge of payroll best practices, tax regulations, and compliance requirements (federal, state, and local).

  • Detail-Oriented: Strong attention to detail with the ability to maintain accuracy in a high-volume environment.

  • Analytical Skills: Ability to identify and resolve payroll discrepancies and perform detailed analysis.

  • Communication Skills: Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, to work effectively with employees and other departments.

  • Problem-Solving: Strong troubleshooting skills and the ability to address payroll issues quickly and efficiently.

  • Confidentiality: Must handle sensitive information with the utmost confidentiality and professionalism.

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Human Resources, or a related field (preferred, but not required).



Pay Details: $26.00 to $32.00 per hour
