Job Posting: Payroll Specialist (Temp or Temp-to-Perm)

LHH Recruitment Solutions is partnering with a reputable client in Bergen County, NJ, to find an experienced Payroll Specialist for a temp-to-perm or temporary role. The ideal candidate will be highly detail-oriented, possess a strong understanding of payroll processing, and be capable of ensuring timely and accurate payroll for employees. This is an exciting opportunity to be part of a collaborative team while further developing your payroll expertise in a growing organization.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Process bi-weekly/monthly payroll for all employees, ensuring compliance with company policies and federal/state regulations.
  • Calculate and process payroll deductions (taxes, benefits, garnishments, etc.).
  • Maintain payroll records, including employee earnings, tax filings, and deductions.
  • Handle employee inquiries related to payroll and resolve discrepancies.
  • Prepare and submit payroll tax filings and reports in a timely manner (federal, state, and local taxes).
  • Ensure compliance with all payroll laws and regulations, including FLSA, wage garnishments, and benefits deductions.
  • Process and track paid time off (PTO), sick days, and other employee leave.
  • Assist in year-end processing, including W-2 preparation and filing.
  • Review and update payroll data as necessary, ensuring accuracy.
  • Collaborate with HR and other departments to ensure smooth payroll operations.
  • Support the audit process by providing required payroll documentation.

Qualifications:

  • Associate’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field (preferred).
  • 2+ years of experience in payroll processing, with knowledge of payroll systems (e.g., ADP, Paychex, or similar).
  • Solid understanding of federal and state payroll tax laws and regulations.
  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
  • Ability to handle confidential information with discretion.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel (pivot tables, formulas, VLOOKUP) and other Microsoft Office applications.
  • Experience with timekeeping systems and payroll-related software.
  • Strong problem-solving and analytical skills.
  • Ability to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines.
