Job Title: Trauma Data Specialist
Location: Onsite - Nashville, TN
Schedule: Monday - Friday, Standard Business Hours
Contract Length: 6-month contract with potential for extension or conversion
Hiring Location: Nashville, TN
Required Qualifications:
2+ years of experience as a Trauma Registrar/Abstractor
Experience with Level 1 or Level 2 Trauma Centers
Proficiency in ICD-10 data abstraction
Completion of Trauma Registry and AIS 15 Courses
Experience with EMR/Registries in DI or CDM (trauma)
Job Summary:
Seeking a Data Abstractor I (Trauma Registrar) responsible for trauma registry abstraction for a Level 1 or 2 Trauma Center. The role involves ICD-10 abstraction, trauma registry databases, and EMR systems such as Meditech Expanse, Epic, or Cerner. The position is fully remote, with flexible hours, though availability during standard business hours for training is required.
Key Responsibilities:
Abstract trauma registry, core measures, and cardiovascular services data
Review and extract patient data from medical records following regulatory standards (CMS, TJC, NHSN, etc.)
Ensure timely abstraction and submission of trauma registry data
Perform edit checks and correct data errors as needed
Communicate with leadership to ensure measure compliance
Participate in required continuing education programs
Education & Certifications:
Required: High school diploma or GED
Preferred: Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in healthcare, HIM, or related field
Preferred Certifications: RHIA, RHIT, CSS, LVN, or RN
Preferred Qualifications:
Certified Specialist in Trauma Registry (CSTR) or Certified Abbreviated Injury Scale Specialist (CAISS)
Familiarity with Meditech Expanse, Epic, or Cerner EMR
Knowledge of medical terminology, quality measures, and coding logic
Previous experience in Health Information Management (HIM), medical coding, or registry abstraction
Work Conditions:
Fully remote position (must be available for training during standard business hours)
Requires prolonged sitting, occasional bending/stretching, and lifting up to 50 lbs
May involve occasional interaction with distressed individuals
This is a 6-month contract with the potential for extension or conversion based on performance and business needs.
