Position Title: Controller
Reports To: Chief Financial Officer (CFO)
Employment Type: Full-Time
Direct Reports: Procurement Manager, Disbursements Manager, Senior Financial Analyst
Position Overview
The Director of Finance plays a critical leadership role in overseeing the financial operations of the organization. Reporting directly to the CFO, this position is responsible for ensuring the integrity of financial reporting, compliance with accounting standards, and the effective management of accounting, disbursements, payroll, and procurement functions. The Director will provide strategic financial insights to support executive decision-making and long-term planning, while also ensuring operational excellence across all finance-related activities.
Key Responsibilities
Lead and manage the day-to-day financial operations, ensuring adherence to GAAP and internal financial policies.
Oversee the preparation and analysis of financial statements, management reports, and key performance indicators (KPIs) to support strategic planning and operational efficiency.
Manage revenue recognition and accounts receivable processes in collaboration with financial planning teams.
Prepare and present monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reporting packages for internal and external stakeholders, including partners and lenders.
Develop, implement, and maintain financial policies and procedures to ensure compliance and operational consistency.
Supervise and mentor finance team members, fostering a culture of accountability, collaboration, and continuous improvement.
Direct disbursement functions, including payroll and accounts payable, ensuring accuracy and timeliness.
Oversee procurement operations, including vendor management and purchasing compliance.
Support research-related financial activities, including budgeting, milestone tracking, and invoicing.
Collaborate on the development of annual operating and capital budgets, providing detailed financial analysis and forecasting.
Identify and implement process improvements to enhance financial performance and operational efficiency.
Coordinate with treasury functions on banking and cash management activities.
Lead the annual financial audit process and liaise with external auditors to ensure timely and accurate reporting.
Oversee tax compliance in coordination with external tax advisors, ensuring adherence to all applicable federal, state, and local regulations.
Participate in cross-functional initiatives and committees, providing financial expertise and strategic input.
Ensure compliance with HIPAA and other regulatory requirements related to financial operations.
Perform additional duties and special projects as assigned by executive leadership.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Economics, or a related discipline required; Master’s degree or CPA designation strongly preferred.
Minimum of five years of progressive financial management experience, with demonstrated leadership capabilities.
Prior experience in healthcare finance is highly desirable.
Strong command of accounting principles, financial analysis, and reporting standards.
Proven ability to manage complex projects and lead cross-functional teams.
Exceptional attention to detail and commitment to producing high-quality, accurate work.
Excellent organizational and time management skills, with the ability to meet tight deadlines.
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook) and financial systems; experience with Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central is preferred.
Outstanding verbal and written communication skills.
Demonstrated integrity, professionalism, and a strong sense of ownership in driving financial performance.
Work Environment
This position offers a hybrid work arrangement. Specific in-office and remote work schedules will be determined in alignment with organizational needs.
