Job Summary:

LHH Recruitment Solutions is seeking a highly skilled Staff Accountant for a 3 month contract role with a confidential client in Newport News, VA. This role requires the use of independent judgment and analytical skills in a highly computerized environment. Will be responsible for a variety of tasks including the monthly preparation and analysis of estimated contractual adjustments, charity and bad debt, the preparation and filing of Medicare and Medicaid annual cost reports and settlements, and the preparation and maintenance of annual budgets.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Accounting Analysis: Independently complete complex accounting analysis requiring the application of accounting theory.

  • Monthly Preparation: Prepare and analyze estimated contractual adjustments, charity, and bad debt. File Medicare and Medicaid annual cost reports and settlements.

  • Budget Maintenance: Prepare and maintain annual budgets, Federal/State and Local tax returns, and report to the state COPN Regulatory Authority.

  • Regulation Interpretation: Interpret and communicate federal and state regulations. Manage and assess priorities and deadlines.

  • Integrity Assessment: Assess the theoretical integrity of accounting functions performed in the area of responsibility. Recommend and implement improvements.

  • Liaison Role: Serve as a liaison with regulatory and taxing agencies, external consultants, auditors, and leadership.

Job Requirements:

  • Education: Must possess a Bachelor's Degree in Accounting; a Master's degree is preferred.

  • Experience: Experience with analysis and data manipulation with strong Excel and database skills. Accounting experience with Analysis/Budget/Financial Statements. One year of Healthcare Accounting/Finance experience in lieu of CPA.

  • Skills: Strong analytical skills, independent judgment, and the ability to work in a highly computerized environment.
