As a Medical Coder, you’ll contribute to the integrity of patient records and ensure that healthcare services are represented accurately.
Remote but applicant must reside in Hawaii to be considered for the role
Responsibilities:
Review patient records to assign correct codes for diagnoses and procedures, ensuring they align with ICD-10-CM, CPT, and other coding standards.
Under general supervision, ensure that records are coded within established timeframes to meet regulatory requirements.
Stay informed of changes in coding standards to ensure precision in each record coded.
Certification Requirements:
Certified Coding Specialist (CCS), Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT), or Registered Health Information Administrator (RHIA) certification is required.
Background in medical terminology, anatomy and physiology, ICD-10, CPT coding conventions, and the disease process from an accredited program.
High school diploma or GED required.
What We’re Looking For:
A minimum of two years of continuous hospital coding experience, with expertise in abstracting and analyzing health records.
Ability to grasp the clinical content of a health record, interpret diagnoses/procedures, and discuss these with physicians to ensure accuracy and sequence.
A 95% compliance rate
Score a minimum of 75% on coding assessment.
Proficiency in PC basics and Excel.
Maintain your coding credential to stay up to date with evolving coding guidelines.
Abide by AHIMA’s coding code of ethics to ensure integrity and professionalism.
