Accounts Receivable & Cash Applications Specialist
Location: Phoenix, AZ
Type: Full-Time, Long-Term, In-Office
Work Hours: Monday - Friday, 7:00 AM - 4:00 PM or 8:00 AM - 5:00 PM
Pay: $26/hr - $30/hr depending on experience
A well-established construction is seeking a detail-oriented accounts receivable and cash applications specialist to join their team. This role requires someone who is professional in their communication, especially with customers, and proactive in researching issues before reaching out. Since the company operates in a niche industry, candidates must have the drive and willingness to understand the business to accurately assist customers.
Responsibilities
Monitor accounts to ensure timely payments and follow up on overdue invoices.
Be proactive in collections—going beyond standard follow-ups by professionally pushing for more information and addressing potential issues before they escalate.
Reconcile discrepancies between invoices and payments.
Work closely with clients to resolve payment-related inquiries.
Apply customer payments accurately
Research and resolve unapplied or misapplied payments.
Reconcile daily cash receipts and ensure all transactions are recorded properly.
Handle progress payments and manage lien waivers (experience preferred).
Understand the complexities of construction payment processes to effectively assist customers.
Maintain organized and up-to-date AR records.
Generate AR aging and cash application reports.
Provide financial data and analysis as needed.
Qualifications
3+ experience in accounts receivable and cash applications, preferably in construction or related industries.
Sage 100 or NetSuite experience is highly preferred.
Strong communication skills, must be professional, clear, and proactive in customer interactions.
Ability to research issues independently.
Experience with progress payments and lien waivers is a plus.
Strong collections skills, ability to politely but firmly push for needed information and payments.
Exceptional attention to detail and accuracy in financial record-keeping.
