LHH Recruitment Solutions is partnering with a client to hire a detail-oriented and experienced Payroll Specialist for a in Pleasanton, California. Ideally you will have a strong background in processing payroll, especially within a unionized environment, and will be well-versed in collective bargaining agreements (CBAs), timekeeping systems, and California labor laws. This role is critical to ensuring timely and accurate weekly payroll processing for both union and non-union employees. (700+ total employees)
PLEASE NOTE: All duties for this opportunity are performed at the client’s office in Pleasanton, California.
Key Responsibilities:
Process end-to-end payroll for union and non-union employees on a weekly/biweekly basis.
Interpret and apply collective bargaining agreements (CBAs) for multiple union contracts.
Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local wage and hour laws, including California-specific payroll regulations.
Maintain payroll records and reports in accordance with company policies and legal requirements.
Coordinate with HR and department managers regarding new hires, terminations, wage adjustments, and benefit deductions.
Respond to employee inquiries regarding payroll issues, discrepancies, and deductions in a professional and timely manner.
Prepare payroll reports for internal and external audits.
Collaborate with union representatives when necessary to resolve payroll-related issues.
Stay updated on union contract changes and ensure proper implementation in the payroll system.
Qualifications:
3+ years of payroll experience, with at least 1–2 years of direct union payroll experience.
Strong understanding of payroll regulations, including California-specific labor laws and taxes.
Experience working with union contracts and collective bargaining agreements.
Proficiency with payroll systems (e.g., ADP, UKG, Paycom, or similar).
Advanced Excel skills and experience with timekeeping systems.
Strong attention to detail and analytical skills.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
Ability to handle confidential information with integrity and discretion.
Preferred Qualifications:
Certified Payroll Professional (CPP) or Fundamental Payroll Certification (FPC) is a plus.
Experience in a unionized construction, manufacturing, or healthcare environment.
Bilingual in Spanish or another language common among union workers is a plus.
