Medical Credentialing Specialist

Location: Portland, Oregon

Position Type: Full-Time

Pay: $20-28/hr


Position Summary:

The Medical Credentialing Specialist will manage the credentialing, re-credentialing, and privileging processes for medical, mental health, and alcohol & drug providers. This role involves ensuring that providers are appropriately credentialed, appointed, and privileged with health plans, and maintaining up-to-date data on licenses and certifications.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Compile and maintain accurate provider data.

  • Conduct background investigations and primary source verification.

  • Complete and monitor credentialing and re-credentialing applications.

  • Prepare credential files for approval.

  • Maintain documentation such as state licenses, DEA certificates, and malpractice coverage.

  • Stay updated on health plan and agency credentialing requirements.

  • Monitor provider reappointment and continuous queries.

  • Manage provider information in credentialing spreadsheets.

  • Ensure practice information is current with relevant entities.

  • Verify degrees and respond to credentialing inquiries.

  • Maintain confidentiality of provider information.

Qualifications:

  • Previous experience in medical credentialing or a related field preferred.

  • Strong organizational and multitasking skills.

  • Knowledge of credentialing processes and regulatory requirements.

  • Excellent communication skills.

  • Ability to handle sensitive information confidentially.
