Job Title: Legal Bookkeeper
Location: Downtown Portland, OR – Fully Onsite
Salary Range: $75,000–$80,000 a year
Employment Type: Direct Hire, Full Time (Some Overtime Required)
LHH is partnering with a respected law firm in Downtown Portland, OR, to recruit a skilled Legal Bookkeeper for a full-time, direct hire opportunity. The ideal candidate will have 3+ years of legal bookkeeping experience, with a strong understanding of trust accounting, accounts payable, and legal compliance. A bachelor's degree in Accounting or a related field is preferred but not required.
Key Responsibilities:
Oversee daily bookkeeping functions, including trust account management, general ledger activity, and reconciliations.
Process and manage high-volume billing in compliance with firm policies.
Ensure adherence to IOLTA and all legal trust accounting regulations.
Reconcile operating and trust bank accounts and manage credit card transactions.
Prepare monthly and year-end financial reports for management and external accountants.
Support attorneys and staff with financial information and reporting as needed.
Assist in payroll processing and ensure proper recording of journal entries.
Maintain accurate and timely month-end close procedures.
Act as liaison with outside accounting professionals during audits or tax preparation.
Uphold confidentiality and compliance standards within all financial activities.
Qualifications:
Minimum of 3 years of legal accounting experience or similar industry required.
Degree in accounting or similar required
Demonstrated experience with financial reporting, trust accounting, and reconciliations.
Proficiency in legal accounting software or similar
Strong understanding of legal accounting procedures and compliance standards.
Excellent skills in Microsoft Excel and the full Microsoft Office Suite.
High attention to detail, strong organizational skills, and the ability to prioritize tasks effectively.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Ability to work independently in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.
