Legal Billing Specialist

$55,000.00 - $70,000.00 per Year
- Review and analyze attorney time entries and expenses for accuracy and compliance with client billing guidelines and firm policies.
- Prepare and distribute client invoices in a timely manner, ensuring all billable hours and expenses are properly documented and billed.
- Coordinate with attorneys and other legal staff to resolve billing discrepancies and ensure accurate invoicing.
- Maintain billing records, including client matter information, billing rates, and billing histories.
- Respond to client inquiries regarding billing matters, providing detailed explanations and resolving issues as needed.
- Assist with the development and implementation of billing procedures and best practices to improve efficiency and accuracy.
- Monitor unbilled time and expenses, proactively follow up with attorneys to ensure timely billing, and minimize write-offs.
- Generate billing reports and analysis for management review, identifying trends and areas for improvement.
- Collaborate with the accounting department to reconcile client accounts and process payments.
- Stay informed about changes in billing regulations, industry trends, and best practices in legal billing.
- Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, business administration, or a related field.
- Minimum of 3 years of experience working in legal billing or a similar role within a law firm or legal department.
- Proficiency in legal billing software (e.g., Elite, Aderant, LegalTracker) and Microsoft Office Suite.
- Strong understanding of legal billing processes, including billable hours, flat fees, and contingency arrangements.
- Excellent attention to detail and accuracy, with the ability to maintain confidentiality of sensitive information.
- Exceptional analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to reconcile complex billing discrepancies.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to interact professionally with attorneys, clients, and internal stakeholders.
- Ability to prioritize tasks effectively and work efficiently under tight deadlines.
- Knowledge of accounting principles and experience with billing reconciliations preferred.
- Professional certification (e.g., Certified Legal Billing Specialist) is a plus.
