Temporary Compensation Manager (Remote)

LHH is teaming up with a leading non-profit in search of a temporary Compensation Manager. This is a 100% REMOTE opportunity, but candidates who sit in the San Francisco/Bay Area or Sacramento, CA are highly preferred.



This role involves managing the day-to-day operations of compensation programs for a national workforce of 500+ employees, ensuring practices remain competitive and equitable. Key responsibilities include evaluating and grading roles, approving spot bonuses in accordance with policy and budget, maintaining salary structures and job documentation, and assisting with a market analysis of approximately 300 roles. The Temporary Compensation Manager will collaborate closely with HR, Finance, and departmental leadership to ensure consistency, fairness, and alignment across all compensation activities.



The ideal candidate has a strong understanding of compensation laws and regulations and possesses advanced skills in MS Office Suite, particularly Excel. Additionally, the candidate should demonstrate excellent problem-solving, analytical, and interpersonal communication skills, with the ability to handle confidential information sensitively and work both independently and as part of a team. Familiarity with a matrixed organization and experience in a collaborative HR Partner/Business Partner model are also advantageous.



Key Responsibilities:

  • Maintain salary structures and manage the internal job matrix to ensure pay equity and track organizational jobs and grades.

  • Collaborate with HR partners and recruitment staff on salary offers and provide support for compensation-related queries.

  • Create tools and documents to help managers understand compensation practices, process promotion requests, and partner on compensation projects.

  • Support comprehensive compensation market reviews and assist with job description updates.

  • Handle compensation inquiries from the Board.

  • Work with HR Partners to develop job descriptions for new positions, updates, and promotions.

  • Oversee and maintain the central folder of job descriptions and ensure job titles and families have clear career paths.

Qualifications:

  • BA/BS required; advanced degrees in Finance or Business Administration preferred.

  • CCP or PHR/SPHR certification preferred.

  • 5+ years of relevant experience, preferably in a matrixed organization.

  • Advanced skills in MS Office Suite, particularly Excel, and familiarity with compensation laws and regulations.

  • Strong judgment, attention to detail, time management, problem-solving, and analytical skills.

  • Ability to communicate effectively at all organizational levels and work both independently and as part of a team.

  • Experience with compensation-related modules, advanced reporting, and implementing process changes.


Job Type: Contract (approximate duration is 9 months)

Start Date: June 2, 2025

Location: 100% Remote. Candidates who sit in the San Francisco/Bay Area or Sacramento, CA are highly preferred.

Hours: Full-time. 37.5 hours/week

Pay Rate: $72-$94/hour, depending on experience and location
