Job Title: Assistant Bookkeeper
Location: Sayreville, NJ
Salary: $75,000 – $85,000

Job Description:

We are seeking a detail-oriented and experienced Assistant Bookkeeper to join our client’s growing team. This position plays a critical role in supporting day-to-day financial operations, with a focus on accounts payable, payroll processing, invoicing, and maintaining accurate records in Sage 300 / Timberline.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Support accurate and timely payroll processing and assist in maintaining employee records

  • Manage accounts payable processes including vendor setup, invoice coding, and payment processing

  • Generate and issue customer invoices for both service and construction teams

  • Perform daily bank deposits and reconcile payments with open invoices

  • Contact customers to follow up on overdue payments and resend invoices or statements when needed

  • Maintain up-to-date financial records and generate reports as requested

  • Reconcile vendor statements and work to resolve discrepancies

  • Assist with month-end and year-end closing activities

  • Ensure compliance with GAAP, internal controls, and state/federal tax regulations (including sales tax reporting)

  • Use Sage 300 software for data entry, coding, and financial tracking

  • Perform additional duties as assigned by the Controller

Requirements:

  • Associate degree in Accounting or Finance, or 4+ years of related bookkeeping experience

  • Experience with Sage 300 / Timberline software strongly preferred

  • Knowledge of general accounting principles (GAAP)

  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail

  • Ability to manage priorities and meet deadlines in a fast-paced setting

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel, Teams)

  • Strong communication skills and ability to maintain confidentiality
