LHH Recruitment Solutions is partnering with a non-profit client to hire a Staff Accountant for a contract role in San Francisco, California. The Senior Accountant plays a key role in ensuring the integrity of financial operations and compliance with GAAP and fund accounting principles. This position is ideal for a detail-oriented accounting professional with extensive experience in the non-profit sector. The Senior Accountant will be responsible for general ledger management, grant reporting, budgeting support, and audit preparation.

PLEASE NOTE: All duties for this role are performed at the client’s headquarters in San Francisco, California (SF Financial Distrcit)


Key Responsibilities:

  • Manage and maintain the general ledger, ensuring accurate and timely monthly, quarterly, and year-end close processes

  • Prepare financial statements and reports for internal and external stakeholders

  • Track and report on restricted/unrestricted funds, grants, and contracts in compliance with donor and regulatory requirements

  • Assist with the preparation of the annual operating budget and forecasts

  • Lead audit preparations and liaise with external auditors for annual financial and compliance audits

  • Reconcile bank and investment accounts

  • Oversee payroll journal entries and related tax filings in coordination with HR

  • Support the preparation of IRS Form 990 and other required filings

  • Maintain accounting policies and internal controls

  • Provide financial analysis to support strategic decision-making


Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field (CPA or MBA preferred)

  • Minimum 5–7 years of accounting experience, with at least 3 years in the non-profit sector

  • Strong understanding of GAAP and fund accounting (FASB standards)

  • Experience with grant and contract reporting

  • Proficiency in accounting software (e.g., QuickBooks, Sage Intacct, Blackbaud) and Microsoft Excel

  • Excellent organizational, analytical, and communication skills

  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a mission-driven environment

  • Familiarity with federal and state compliance requirements for non-profits

Pay Details: $40.00 to $45.00 per hour
