Job Title: Accounting Manager
Location: Tempe, AZ (Onsite)
Compensation: $120,000–$130,000/year
Bonus: Discretionary bonus based on individual and company performance (typically 5–10%)
Employment Type: Direct-hire
Overview:
A leading employee-owned organization is seeking an experienced and collaborative Accounting Manager to join its growing infrastructure-focused division in Tempe, AZ. This newly created role will support continued expansion and play a key part in leading accounting operations, financial reporting, and team development. The ideal candidate will bring a strong foundation in accounting, proven leadership experience, and the ability to make high-level assessments and judgment calls in a fast-paced, project-driven environment.
Key Responsibilities:
- Oversee daily, monthly, and annual accounting functions including AP, AR, payroll, and general ledger activities
- Ensure compliance with internal policies, contract terms, and relevant legislation
- Review and analyze financial adjustments, submissions, and reports; resolve discrepancies and issues
- Manage cash flow and provide recommendations for improvement
- Prepare and manage year-end documentation and support internal/external audits
- Provide financial guidance on contracts and subcontracts; interpret and negotiate changes as needed
- Supervise and mentor accounting and AP/AR staff (team of 6+), fostering a collaborative and high-performing environment
- Collaborate with project engineering and operations teams to support financial decision-making
- Ensure documentation such as insurance, bonding, and lien waivers are current and compliant
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting required; CPA or Master’s degree preferred
- 6+ years of progressive accounting experience, ideally in mid-to-large enterprise environments or a mix of public/private
- 1–2 years of supervisory experience preferred
- Industry experience in construction or infrastructure strongly preferred, including WIP reporting, percentage-of-completion accounting, and familiarity with construction contracts
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills; ability to make sound financial judgments
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel; experience with JD Edwards and Oracle products preferred
- Excellent communication skills and ability to work cross-functionally
- Team-oriented mindset with a desire to lead and grow within the organization
