LHH is seeking a Lead Patient Accounting Representative for our Healthcare team. This role is a hybrid role, W2 contract in Maui, HI.
Shift: 8:00am-4:30pm HST
Interview Process: In-person, Panel Interview

Job Summary:
Under indirect supervision, the Patient Accounting Representative processes insurance claims, reports, and billing for compensation of patients and members for medical disability benefits. This role involves handling applications from medical/life insurance, supplemental benefits, and assigned accounts. Responsibilities include obtaining background information, arranging for the collection of monies owed, and performing other collection duties as needed. The representative must comply with state and federal regulations, laws, and guidelines related to third-party payers and maintain current knowledge of relevant health plan benefits and policies.
Major Responsibilities/Essential Functions:
· Medical Information Requests: Receives, reviews, and controls requests for medical information, visit records, nurse/doctor notes, and other pertinent documents. Verifies completeness and accuracy to ensure efficient processing of claims.
· Data Auditing and Summarization: Audits, abstracts, and summarizes data from patient medical records and other documents. Processes insurance claims and reports in compliance with regulations and policies.
· Follow-Up and Communication: Performs follow-up with insurance companies, agencies, and patients. Communicates effectively with insurance carriers, intermediaries, members, doctors, outside providers, and patients.
· Collections: Collects monies owed for all inpatient/outpatient services rendered by third-party payers, employers, patients, and guarantors. Contacts debtors by telephone or correspondence to arrange for collection.
· Account Analysis: Analyzes delinquent accounts to determine collectability, prepares write-off accounts, and assists outside attorneys with pertinent information.
· Documentation: Documents and records of all collection actions taken on individual accounts in the computer system. Maintains a tickler system to monitor promised payments.
· Skip Tracing: Research internal and external documents to determine the whereabouts of debtors and updates patient demographics for rebilling when a different address is obtained.
· Office Equipment Operation: Operates standard office equipment and refers to difficult problems to the supervisor.
· Culturally Sensitive Care: Demonstrates knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to provide culturally sensitive care and/or service.
Preferred Experience and Qualifications:
· Two (2) years of collections experience in the healthcare field.
· Knowledge of medical terminology, CPT-4, and ICD-9-CM coding.
· Knowledge of mainframe collections applications.
· Proficiency in word processing, spreadsheet, and database PC applications.
· Additional Requirements
· Ability to communicate effectively with co-workers, customers, and outside vendors.
· Proficiency in reading, writing, speaking, and understanding English.
· Strong mathematical ability, attention to detail, concentration, and alertness.
