The Property Accountant will be responsible for overseeing the financial records for multiple properties within our client's commercial and residential portfolios. This role involves a variety of accounting tasks such as journal entries, reconciliations, and financial reporting for each property. This position offers a unique opportunity to collaborate closely with Asset Management, Property Management, and VPs of Commercial/Residential. A strong grasp of accounting principles and a willingness to take on project-based tasks are essential.
Key Responsibilities:
- Record business transactions accurately and promptly by preparing journal entries.
- Complete general ledger reconciliations according to the month-end close schedule.
- Prepare and review monthly and quarterly financial statements, including budget-to-actual variance analysis.
- Manage cash schedules and forecasts to ensure property needs are met.
- Conduct monthly check runs to ensure timely payment of invoices.
- Prepare lender reports on a monthly, quarterly, and annual basis for loan compliance.
- Assist Asset and Property Managers with all accounting, budgeting, and reporting matters.
- Support external auditors during year-end audits for select properties.
- Assist external CPAs with annual entity tax returns.
- Undertake special projects and other duties as needed.
Qualifications:
- A proactive, self-directed team player who is conscientious and takes responsibility for their performance and work product.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and prioritize competing deadlines.
- Excellent time management skills and the ability to work independently.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel.
- Strong problem-solving and analytical skills.
- Knowledge of accounting principles and general ledger account practices.
Education:
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
- CPA preferred, but not required.
Experience:
- At least 2 years of industry experience.
- Experience with MRI Software is preferred but not required.
- Proficiency in MS Excel, Word, and database applications.
Physical Requirements:
- Prolonged periods of sitting.
- Frequent use of office equipment such as a computer, copy machine, and telephone.
- Occasional stretching and bending to access file cabinets and office equipment.
- Occasional standing and walking.
