The Property Accountant will be responsible for overseeing the financial records for multiple properties within our client's commercial and residential portfolios. This role involves a variety of accounting tasks such as journal entries, reconciliations, and financial reporting for each property. This position offers a unique opportunity to collaborate closely with Asset Management, Property Management, and VPs of Commercial/Residential. A strong grasp of accounting principles and a willingness to take on project-based tasks are essential.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Record business transactions accurately and promptly by preparing journal entries.
  • Complete general ledger reconciliations according to the month-end close schedule.
  • Prepare and review monthly and quarterly financial statements, including budget-to-actual variance analysis.
  • Manage cash schedules and forecasts to ensure property needs are met.
  • Conduct monthly check runs to ensure timely payment of invoices.
  • Prepare lender reports on a monthly, quarterly, and annual basis for loan compliance.
  • Assist Asset and Property Managers with all accounting, budgeting, and reporting matters.
  • Support external auditors during year-end audits for select properties.
  • Assist external CPAs with annual entity tax returns.
  • Undertake special projects and other duties as needed.

Qualifications:

  • A proactive, self-directed team player who is conscientious and takes responsibility for their performance and work product.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and prioritize competing deadlines.
  • Excellent time management skills and the ability to work independently.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel.
  • Strong problem-solving and analytical skills.
  • Knowledge of accounting principles and general ledger account practices.

Education:

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
  • CPA preferred, but not required.

Experience:

  • At least 2 years of industry experience.
  • Experience with MRI Software is preferred but not required.
  • Proficiency in MS Excel, Word, and database applications.

Physical Requirements:

  • Prolonged periods of sitting.
  • Frequent use of office equipment such as a computer, copy machine, and telephone.
  • Occasional stretching and bending to access file cabinets and office equipment.
  • Occasional standing and walking.
